For now, let us uncover how the Pink Moon came to be and what we can do to leverage its powerful energy....
So What Is This "Pink Moon"?
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the Full Moon in April is named "Full Pink Moon" because it appears “moss pink” - almost like the blossoming of the flowers of spring:
The "Phlox" wildflower inspired the name "Pink Moon."
The Pink Moon got it’s name from a vibrant pink spring wildflower called Phlox, which are the first flowers to blossom every year in the spring time.
April’s full moon is also known as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon.
I'm willing to bet that many of you are wondering how and why these names were conceived.
To address this question, let us soar into some brief Full Moon History:
Early colonial Americans used names in correspondence with the Julian or Gregorian calendar (Algonquins among the first).
They would observe the lunar cycle to keep track of season changes, and let that dictate their activity.
But not all tribes called April Full Moon a Pink Full Moon.
The Māori people of New Zealand, for instance, called the April moon "Paenga-whāwhā," describing the month as a time when, "All straw is now stacked at the borders of the plantations," according to The Encyclopedia of New Zealand.
The reason this is is that New Zealand is located in the Southern Hemisphere, and April would actually be the fall time there.
